In the summer of 2008, in a quaint barn in Dover, OrangeMite produced its first original musical,
In The Globe. At the time, the group was by no means official, but after the great success of the
show planning quickly began. In January of 2009 OrangeMite Studios incorporated as a non-
profit in the state of Pennsylvania.
In May of 2009 OMS produced the popular Shakespeare show, As You Like It. This show kicked
off the “Shakespeare in the Barn” program that is still thriving today! The summer after our first
Shakespeare production we produced our second original musical, Laugh Clown, Laugh. This
farce comedy was a hit in the community.
OrangeMite kicked off its 2010 season with an original Broadway revue entitled Broadway 101.
“Shakespeare in the Barn” had its second installment in May of 2010 when we performed The
Comedy of Errors. In the summer of that year was the exciting world premiere of the acclaimed
musical, Heavy Lies The Crown. Written by William Wolfgang and Jesse Rupp, and directed by
Yvette Hershey, this musical was OrangeMite’s largest production to date.
OrangeMite’s 2011 season brought three full length shows to our schedule for the first time:
The Merchant of Venice, Starcross’d (A Musical Adaptation of Romeo and Juliet), and The Two
Gentlemen of Verona. During this season OrangeMite founded the Dover Community Orchestra,
which performed its first annual holiday concert tour of the area, delighting audiences with How
the Grinch Stole Christmas.
The following year, OrangeMite’s fifth season brought yet another hilarious installment to
the “Shakespeare in the Barn” program The Taming of the Shrew. The organization intrigued
audiences with its red hot performance of its fifth original musical, The Adventures of the
Mysterious Tigerman. The Dover Community Orchestra continued to grow during this year,
once again playing many concerts throughout the community. The success of the orchestra led
into the development OrangeMite’s very own jazz ensemble, OrangeMite Jazz. OMS closed the
season with a gripping production of Timon of Athens.
Now moving into its sixth year, OrangeMite Studios has many exciting new possibilities on
the horizon. This season features Love’s Labor’s Lost, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the
original western – Vengeance for Hotspur. Dover Community Orchestra will also be performing
four concerts in the area with themes ranging from musical theatre to the music of science
fiction. OrangeMite is an arts organization with something for everyone! Take this opportunity
to support the arts in your community! |
